    Who We Are

    The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in Alameda, California, is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953.

    As one of 17 geographic sections of the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA NorCal engages audiences across the whole community and brings tennis to a diverse set of players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks, organized leagues, and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants, and education resources, this team champions tennis throughout Northern California.

    The Role

    Location Requirement:

    The applicant must reside in one of the following counties and will be responsible for covering and traveling this designated territory: Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.

    Job Summary:

    Implement community initiatives to expand access to tennis and increase awareness across the Section. Establish outreach efforts aligned with Section goals and priorities, while building and nurturing strong relationships within the community.

    NorCal Community initiatives include: Development and partnerships with Community Tennis Associations (CTAs), Collaboration with Parks & Recreation Departments, National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL), Schools, HITS (after-school), Tennis on Campus (TOC), Adaptive and Wheelchair tennis, Adult Social Play, Town Halls.

    Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

    • Implement and develop assigned community outreach initiatives and partnerships, serving as the primary staff and stakeholder contact for these programs.
    • Achieve both quantitative and qualitative goals related to program growth, participation, and impact.
    • Facilitate and support initiative-specific plans and actions in alignment with Section goals and under the guidance of your manager.
    • Ensure consistent program quality and foster sustainable growth through ongoing evaluation, support, and alignment with the organization’s overall objectives. Implement Section and National requirements surrounding these programs.
    • Schedule and lead regular weekly meetings and activities to build strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration to deliver and grow strategic initiatives.
    • Allocate a portion of your time to travel within your region to establish and strengthen community partnerships.
    • Manage all administrative aspects of assigned programs, ensuring timely and accurate documentation and reporting.
    • Maintain and update an Excel spreadsheet with client rosters, contact information, program status, key updates, and next steps; submit this report to your manager weekly.
    • Initiate and facilitate community outreach meetings that result in USTA programming opportunities.
    • Support and assist providers, volunteers, Parks & Recreation departments, Community Tennis Associations (CTAs), and other partners with the implementation of USTA-based programs in your region.
    • Plan, manage, and oversee the execution of your designated community initiatives, ensuring alignment with Section goals.
    • Provide training and educational sessions for clients and community organizations to support program adoption and sustainability.
    • Remain proactive and informed about current Section and National USTA programs, resources, tools, and updates.
    • Serve as the project lead for outreach and USTA-related community events.
    • Support additional programs and activities as assigned by your manager.

    Travel Obligations

    • ​Attend local and national staff training and meetings as required by your supervisor
    • Ability and willingness to travel within the Section and occasionally outside the Section
    • Attend and supervise events based on staff and department needs
    • Coordinate and participate in meetings as needed to support staff and departmental goals
    • Availability to travel, work weekends, and extended hours as necessary
    • Must have access to a reliable car, current driver’s license, and active auto insurance.

    • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
    • Strong academic background; baccalaureate degree and/or strong work experience
    • Experience training staff and volunteers.
    • PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Video Meetings.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by your manager.

    This is a full-time job (M-F 8am-5pm with occasional weekend work for events) and the expected non-exempt compensation for this position is $33.65 – $40.87 per hour depending on experience and reports to the Sr. Manager, Community Programs. *This is a remote position with travel required, as listed above.

    This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant’s qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, and unique skills.
